Difference Between Windows 7 and 8

Difference Between Windows 7 and 8

Windows 7 became available in October 2009, replacing Windows Vista.  Windows 8 became available in October 2012.

The most noticeable difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8:

  • Windows 8 incorporates interface features for touch screen devices such as laptops with touch screens and tablets
  • The Windows 8 Start Screen displays a grid of tiles that can show dynamic content
  • Windows 8 also added authentication methods useful for touch screen platforms such as PINs and picture passwords
  • Windows 8 updated Windows Explorer, renamed File Explorer in Windows 8
  • Anti-virus has been added to Windows Defender

The Microsoft Surface Tablet runs Windows 8 to support touch screen features.
