What is HDMI?

What is HDMI?

HDMI is an acronym that means "High Definition Multimedia Interface".  HDMI  is the interface that carries digital video and digital audio signals for digital television and monitors.

HDMI ports are found on High Definition (HD) television sets and provide a means to provide a HD digital video source to the TV.  For example, a blu-ray player is connected to a digital TV through its HDMI interface using an HDMI cable.  The HDMI output port on the blu-ray is connected to one end of an HDMI cable and the other end of the HDMI cable is connected to the digital TV. Both digital audio and digital video signals are supported on HDMI.

Another example of connecting an HDMI media device is using the HDMI port on an Xbox to get high definition video for video games.  Just connect an HDMI cable between the Xbox and your High Definiton TV.

What is an HDMI cable?

An HDMI cable is the type of cable designed to carry HD digital video and digital audio from a  media source to a TV or monitor.  HDMI cables are available in a variety of lengths and start at about $5.
